General background:

Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia which has maintained its independence since the 13th century. Until the institution of its first constitution in 1932, the king was absolute ruler. Thailand is now a parliamentary democracy, and the role of the monarch is symbolic and ceremonial.

Cooperation with AICAT:

Thailand was the first country to begin cooperation with AICAT, in 1994.
The program started with 25 students. AICAT cooperate with the Thai Ministry of Education and the agricultural colleges in Sri Saket, Roiet, Maha Sarakham and Khon Kaen.
Since its inception our cooperation with Thailand has expanded and deepened, many different avenues of cooperation have been created.  Students who complete their studies at AICAT return to Thailand and establish farms at which they apply the knowledge which they acquired during their training in the Arava.
